P.E. in Kilmacthomas P.S.
There are 6 strands in the P.E. curriculum: Athletics, Dance, Games, Gymnastics, Outdoor and Adventure, Aquatics. 5 out of the 6 strands are covered each year, with Aquatics (water safety) being taught in the classroom. If you wish to take a look at the curriculum, it can be found on the NCCA website. Physical Education is allocated 1 hour per week of overall teaching time. The Active School Flag Programme has helped us to focus more on our provision of physical education in the school. Teachers use the PE curriculum, PSSI lesson plans and the Move Well, Move Often Resources in their planning for physical education lessons. |
Active School FlagIn order to be successful in the Active School Flag we must self-evaluate, plan, implement and monitor improvements in several areas such as the P.E. curriculum, the children’s physical activity throughout the day and our partnership with the local community.
As the Active School Flag involves the whole school community we would encourage you to also provide opportunities for your children to be active at home. Additionally, if you think you have any skills or ideas that would be of benefit to the Active School Flag we would love you to get involved. You can pass on your suggestions to your child’s teacher. Your support of the Active School Flag is greatly appreciated. |
