Physical Activity
Kilmacthomas Primary School actively promotes the message that children require 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day. We have been extremely busy engaging in a wide variety of programmes, ideas and initiatives which have inspired the children to become more active.

PAWS (Primary Aquatics Water Safety) outlines life-saving guidelines for children. It teaches children how to be safe around water in homes, farms, pools, beaches and on our waterways. Our 3rd and 4th class pupils completed the programme in June 2021.

We had a great morning visiting the polytunnels in Kilmacthomas village. Thanks to Margaret and her team for the tour and the tasty herbs! We returned to school via the Waterford Greenway, such a wonderful amenity to have on our doorstep.

The Active School Flag is a Department of Education and Skills initiative supported by Healthy Ireland. The Active School Flag is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often.
Kilmacthomas Primary School is currently working towards attaining our first Active School Flag. In order to achieve this, we will be running various active initiatives throughout the year. The aim of this is to increase awareness of the importance of physical activity amongst our young people.
